Made for the Wild

Tenthouse Structures

Made for the Wild

Rather than bending nature to our will,
We should adapt and bend to nature.

Our driving philosophy, a nature-inspired design approach, a conservation guide and the underlying business focus of Tenthouse Structures.

Through cutting edge innovation, professional design-build collaboration, a highly specialised business and a passion for low impact conservation, we continue to deliver extraordinary projects in the wild.

INNOVATION

Inspired by nature, driven by technology

Nature presents elegant solutions to counter unpredictable climatic challenges.

As innovators, we are guided by nature’s design. In nature, as in tensile engineering, form and force are one. Membranes stretch and deflect in wind and snow and in so doing reduce the radius of curvature, which in turn reduces the forces in the net.

This non-linear, bionic design approach to structures, is found throughout nature, in webs, leaves, wings and branches.

Specialisation

Meeting the challenges of wilderness environments

We focus on practical, nature based hospitality applications. To counter the impact of nature’s forces and the challenges of operating tented camps, we produce rational, elegant and lightweight habitats specialised for the wild.

We consider durability, remote site access, serviceability, footprint and guest experience; a multi-disciplinary, ecological and economical design.

Collaboration

Working together for project success

Remote builds expose a project to increased variables and risks. Years in our specialised field has instilled in us the age-old African truth of ‘Ubuntu’.

Simply put team spirit.

Our flexible, collaborative and honest approach to building in the bush means working closely with other professionals, contractors, communities and Mother Nature herself.

Ubuntu encourages trust, support, problem solving, mutual respect and a singular focus to deliver a successful and sustainable project for all.

Low Impact

Touching the Earth Lightly

As a business, we understand that it is paramount to preserve the last remaining wild open spaces for future generations, local community and for nature itself.

The remote wilderness eco-systems in which we operate inspire our designs and motivate us to deliver the most visually and physically sensitive, lightweight fabric habitats imaginable.

We believe perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

We build award-winning developments into Africa and other
