A CONTEMPORARY TENTED LODGE ON THE BANKS OF THE ZAMBEZI
THE PINNACLE OF AUTHENTIC WILDERNESS ARCHITECTURE
SITE LOCATION: Zambezi River, Livingstone, Zambia
Beautifully designed Thorntree River Lodge graces the banks of Zambia’s glorious Zambezi River in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, showcasing incredible river panoramas from its unique vantage and just twenty minutes upstream from Victoria Falls, the lodge is perfectly positioned to enjoy this cascading spectacle.
SCOPE OF WORK
Textile Architecture and Engineering
Incorporating a unique portrait layout for the 12 contemporary glass-fronted accommodation units, Tenthouse Structures architectural team designed the suites to beckon nature inside while presenting unlimited views of the river from within.
Providing flat-pack, lightweight, rigid wall systems, prefabricated bathroom pods, and compact fabric elements, Tenthouse Structures has addressed the unique impact of constraints imposed by the sensitive world heritage site and river location.
Structural insulated paneling provides superior thermal comfort in both hot and cold conditions. Tasteful security sliding mesh screens, necessitated by the active wildlife around the camp, ensure guest safety, and sleek floor-to-apex glazed facades are finished with hand-crafted sailcloth canopies, adding light and ephemeral quality to the modern design.
For the main areas, including the lounge, dining, gym, and spa, Tenthouse Structure’s designed, engineered, supplied, and installed custom architectural roof membrane systems drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of local African culture accented by contemporary influences.
